Description

Spin is an intrinsic property of matter, on par with mass in its fundamentality. It plays a pivotal role in the structure of (sub)atomic particles and their interactions. Spin‑polarized experiments provide unique insights into details of the microcosm that would otherwise remain inaccessible. To advance spin physics at the upcoming accelerator facilities HIAF and FAIR, the Institute of Modern Physics (IMP) and the GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research jointly organized the first Workshop on Polarized Beams and Targets – Physics and Applications (PBT2024). The workshop focused on efforts to realize polarized beams and targets at these facilities and identified key physics topics for future exploration.

Since then, significant progress has been achieved in hardware development, and innovative ideas continue to emerge in both physics and instrumentation. Interest in conducting spin‑polarized experiments at other accelerator facilities, particularly in China, is also growing. It is therefore an opportune time to reconvene, review recent advances, and coordinate future activities.

We are pleased to announce the second edition of the PBT workshop, which will be held from March 30 to April 2, 2026, in Huizhou. The workshop will center on polarized beams, targets, and spin physics at HIAF and FAIR, while also extending the discussion to experiments at other facilities and to non‑accelerator‑based spin physics.
