Description

Axion–photon conversion in magnetic fields provides a powerful probe of axions, but its sensitivity is often limited by the loss of coherence between axions and photons. Axion-magnetic resonance (AMR) overcomes this limitation through spatial or temporal variations of the magnetic field that compensate for their momentum mismatch. I will introduce this mechanism and discuss how it finds applications across different scales: specifically designed magnetic field profiles can extend the reach of laser-based laboratory axion searches [PRD 110 (2024) 1, 015018]; probe new QCD axion parameter space through solar helioscopes [JHEP 03 (2025) 071]; and lead to novel X-ray emission in galaxies (to appear in 2026).
