强子物理在线论坛 Hadron Physics Online Forum (HAPOF)

第七十七届HAPOF论坛,K-Long Experiment at Jefferson Lab,Prof. Igor Strakovsky ,2023年09月01日

Asia/Shanghai
Description
Speaker:Prof. Igor Strakovsky (Glasgow University)
Time:10:00 - 11:30 (Beijing time), September 1st, 2023

Abstract:We proposed to create a secondary beam of neutral kaons in Hall D at Jefferson Lab to
be usedwith the GlueXexperimental setup forstrange hadronspectroscopy. The superior CEBAF electron
beam will enable a flux on the order of 1×10^4 K_L/sec, which exceeds the flux of that previously
attained at SLAC by three orders of magnitude. It will allow a broad range of measurements that
will correspondingly improve the statistics of earlier data obtained on a hydrogen target like
wise by three orders of magnitude. The use of a deuteron target will provide first measurements
ever with neutral kaons on neutrons. The proposed facility will have a defining impact in
understanding both thestrange hyperons and strange mesons.

Brief introduction to speaker:
Dr. Igor Strakovsky is an experimentalist in fundamental nuclear and particle physics. He received
a doctoral degree from thePetersburg Nuclear Physics Institute (PNPI) in 1984 and worked as a
research scientist at PNPI before joining thePhysics Department at Virginia Tech in 1992 and then
the Physics Department at George Washington University in 1997. He has been a full research
professor there since 2009. Since 2022, he is a Honorary Research Fellow of the School of Physics
and Astronomy of Glasgow University, UK. His research is hadronic and electromagnetic physics and
nuclear structure. Now his main experimental focus is on Jefferson Lab, in particular, the KLF
project where he is a co-spokes person. He has published >300 papers in peer-review journals with
over 15,000 citations and an h-index of 48. He authored books, ``Modern MuonPhysics: Selected
Issues'' and ``Neutrino Mass: Past, Present, and Future'' and he isa Regional Award Winner and
one of the 15 national Finalists for The 2008 Inspire Integrity Awards of the National Society of
Collegiate Scholars' (NSCS) Inspire Integrity Awards, USA.
